Sunday Recap for October 9, 2016
The Words We Say

The "From Our Pastors" series is available on our website in the resource tab! Please look forward to more of these in the future. They are part of our pastors' effort to increase our communication to you. They highlight points from the Sunday sermons, or draw linkages between sermons, and will come to you as a regular series. Toby and Seng will write the letters together or take turns tackling different topics. If there is something from the sermons you would like us to zoom in on, please let us know

Mission Highlight: Thank you Pastor Kai, for sharing the Word of God today with us and for also updating us on our sister church, Grace Church of Alameda! Pastor Kaiwin Su has been a friend of Christ Church's previous Assistant Pastor, Jeff Locke, for a while and became the Assistant Pastor of Grace Alameda a few months ago.

Grace Alameda has recently changed their worship time and location. They used to meet at 4PM during Sunday afternoons in the suburb part of Alameda. Their new location is in a busier section of Alameda with more foot traffic, so new people walking right by their church building have been visiting them, adding more diversity not only in terms of ethnicity but also in terms of socioeconomic backgrounds.

Grace Alameda has recently decided to try something new with their home groups. Instead of having larger co-ed groups, they are prayerfully trying out smaller groups of 3-5 men and 3-5 women which will now be called discipleship groups. They are trying to create safer spaces for people to be more vulnerable so they can grow deeper.

Pastor Kaiwin enjoys praying with Pastor Jeff, especially for Christ Church, on a weekly basis. They are asking for us to keep Grace Alameda in prayer especially in light of the changes in time and location for their Sunday worship services and as they try out the new discipleship groups.
Question #40: What should we pray?

Answer: The whole Word of God directs and inspires us in what we pray, including the prayer Jesus himself taught us.
This week's Sermon: "The Work of Our Words" (Ephesians 4:29-32)

Thank you Pastor Kaiwin for sharing why our words matter, what our words reveal, and what our words should do. As we meditate on the importance of our words and affect they have on those around us, let's not despair over the difficulty and challenge of speaking perfectly graciously, but to take in, taste, and delight in the grace that is offered to us in Christ. Let us treasure God's words of love to us in a way that transforms the words we say to each other and ourselves and points to how Jesus saves and to the work the Spirit is doing in our lives.
