This week's Sermon: "Know Your Desires" (Ecclesiastes 1:1-9)

Desire drives life. God made us this way. Humanity was to pursue him, to set our hearts on him, and to let that pure desire order all the rest of our desires. To play off the language of Ecclesiastes, to set our hearts on things that are above the Sun. Humanity rebelling against God disordered that desire. Augustine actually described sin as disordered desire. Disordered desire leads us to set our hearts on all manner of things under the Sun. Wisdom literature, books like Ecclesiastes and Proverbs were written to help us understand the desires of our heart and teach us how to order those desires in a way that is pleasing to God. If sin is disordered desire, I would like to propose that we think of wisdom as ordered desire. We can use wisdom literature to help set our heart and desire on God.

Main Idea: Faithfulness is the only way forward.
