Sunday Recap for December 10, 2017:
Live With Resolve

Please join us on Sunday, December 24th, 10:30 AM at 460 Arguello Blvd. for a family-friendly, Christmas Eve Carol Service! It will be a joyous time to remember and celebrate the Son of God who came to us as a humble baby and will return again as King!

It will be a shorter service with singing and a Christmas message--a perfect opportunity to invite family and friends to hear and partake in the good news!

Baked goods from Arsicault will also be provided, along with special treats and activity bags for the kiddos, so please come early! We hope to see you there!
Mission Highlight: Thank you Chang family for sharing with us about your summer trip to visit Hands at Work in South Africa! The hub of Hands at Work is in South Africa. They got to visit two communities, Zwelisha which was near the hub but struggled with violence and Oshoek a rural community where girls were vulnerable to trafficking. Caroline and Henry shared about the food they got to try in South Africa, how the people lived and how they played together with other kids. As a physician, Becky had studied the AIDS and HIV crisis in South Africa where 1/5 are affected, and also thought about the "freedom of self-forgetfulness" and how "gospel humility" is not about thinking less of oneself, but thinking about oneself less. They saw this demonstrated in the care-givers and staff at Hands at Work, who are serving the children, showering each one with love in tireless, selfless humility in Christ's name. We got to pray for the people the Changs met there by name. The Changs also got to partake in the holy home visits, and although it was hard to measure the value of this time, they heard stories about how it stopped one widow from poisoning herself and her children, and how these communities reflected the early church of sharing life together while sharing everything they had. It challenged how they were living here in SF, and they in turn challenged us learn, pray, give and get involved.
Question #49: Where is Christ now?

Answer: Christ rose bodily from the grave on the third day after his death and is seated at the right hand of the Father, ruling his kingdom and interceding for us, until he returns to judge and renew the whole world.
Link to this Week's Sermon: “Live With Resolve" (1 Peter 4:1-11)

“Throughout the NT, as here, teaching about the future is offered as the basis for how Christians are to live now. What one believes about the future shapes how one lives today. A belief that the future is full of hopelessness, despair, and futility becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy when people live today as if that future were true. On the other hand, hope in a future that is meaningful and assured produces the confidence to live each day with that future in view.” (Karen Jobes)

“The Christian should neither withdraw from the world, nor be lost in the midst of the world. Instead, the Christian should bring the reign of God and the world into collision.” (Jacques Ellul)

Main Idea: Live with resolve, the resolve of Jesus.
