Sunday Recap for March 5, 2017:
Son of Man and Forgiver of Sins

The Lenten season began on March 1st! It is the 40 days leading up to Holy Week and Easter. If you would like to follow a daily devotional, this is a good one! Hands at Work, our ministry partners in Mcheneka and Africa also have 40 days of prayer you can follow as well! This is a great opportunity to prepare your hearts to remember and celebrate the resurrection of Jesus!
The installation of the shoe shine stand was finished on Sunday, and the Grand Opening is Wednesday, 3/8, 12pm-2pm on Market and Sutter! Justin, principal at Thing One, along with many other hands at our church, have been a part of this act of love and service. Please come out and show your support!
Hello parents of babies/toddlers! We are going to have a Baby Dedication on Sunday, March 19th. A baby dedication is a commitment to raise the child up in the Lord and in his ways, and for the church community to commit to encourage and support you to do this. Please email us if your family is interested in being a part of it!
Mission Highlight: It was wonderful to have Stephen Phillips, a longtime ministry partner in the gospel, to visit us from Spain! He shared with us how he has lived in Spain for 16 years now, and the first church he helped plant now has a Catalonian pastor that has taken over in ministering to that congregation! He is currently training a seminary student to take over another church that has lost its pastor, and also preparing to move to help another church an hour away in Villafranca. The dream is to go there and help a church that is growing, help with leadership and discipleship training to reach out and plant more churches as the Catalan people remain largely unreached. He asks for our prayers for his family, his four children, three of whom are teens, must change schools and towns and make new friends. Our prayer is that they learn that Christianity is not about coming to church on Sundays or being comfortable, but to follow Jesus. Please pray that Stephen and Naíme have patience as they disciple their children, and for their children to grow in their faith. Also, please pray for the English camp we (Christ Church) will be a part of this summer. God desires us to bless tribes other than our own, to build relationships to share the gospel. Please pray for those that are going that God use the time to bear fruit. Stephen is so thankful for our prayers and support and ended with this verse to motivate us to have a vision for missions from Revelations 7:9-10,

"After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, 10 and crying out with a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!”

If you are interested in being a part of the English Camp this summer or would to know how to be involved, please email us!
This Sunday, we declared together our beliefs, which have been shared and passed down by the history church, this time in the form of the Nicene Creed:

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father [and the Son], who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.

We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

This Week's Sermon: “Son of Man and Forgiver of Sins" (Mark 2:2-12)

“To err is human; to forgive, divine.” (Alexander Pope)

“God’s redemptive activity is a further attempt to entice and empower us towards full responsible existence in God’s image, under the impact of which there is a repatterning and restructuring of one’s identity and relations.” (Alistair McFadyen)

“Forgiveness and healing are not here two distinct acts, but are different aspects of one thing – the total restoration of the paralyzed man. The one guarantees the other, not because it is a miraculous ‘proof’, but because they belong together.” (Morna Hooker)

Main idea: Seeing Jesus changes the way we see everything.
