Sunday Recap for January 14, 2017:
A Sinful Jesus?

Christ Church has a Mission and Vision Sunday at the beginning of each year. We very much hope to see you there on Sunday, January 21st, 2018.

It will be an important day for everyone to be oriented around our shared vision, direction and plans for the year, as we work together to build unity and grow closer together, having one heart, one mind and the same spirit for the glory of Christ and his kingdom in San Francisco.

Details: Service will begin at 10:30am as usual, but end early at 11:30am. Lunch will be served and we plan to finish the M&V by 12:30pm. Childcare will be provided. More details will come, and please let us know if you have any questions!

Mission Highlight: Thank you Matt for sharing about God's work in Spain! For those of you who are unfamiliar, less than 0.5% of Spain is evangelical Christian (lower percentage than Saudi Arabia) and evangelicals are viewed with as much suspicion as cult members. Matt shared about their home church in Vilassar de Mar (where we visited last summer) and how they now thankfully have an indigenous Catalan pastor. Matt still helps with pastoral ministry, but he is also teaching at the seminary in Spain, one of the few that teach that the Word of God is fully inspired by God without contradiction and that Jesus died under God's wrath in our place. Although the seminary building is very old and there are forty seminary students, they are thankful that students can be taught to read God's word thoughtfully and carefully, and to preach faithfully.

Some prayer requests are: that the church would stay unified in Christ even through political unrest in Spain about Catalonia, so that the church could be an effective witness for Christ. That the seminary would have more than 40 students, that God would raise more professors to fill the need, and that the seminary would become sustainable and not rely on outside churches but on the Spanish church itself. Let's continue to pray together for the Leighton family and for these requests he shared with us from Spain!

Thank you, Matt, for visiting us and preaching for us!

Main: Jesus came to be a perfect sacrifice for sins, to identify with us in our suffering, and to show us God’s love.
