Sunday Recap for September 9, 2018:
Rivalry Destroys

Mission Highlight: Thank you Laurie and Lee for sharing about San Francisco's District 7! One of the most suburban districts in San Francisco, Laurie shared about how though they live in an apartment building, they are surrounded by single family homes with two-car garages, people walking their dogs who stop to chat. They love their district, bordered by all three of their daughter Julia's public schools, along with two libraries and two bookstores close by. They shared about their favorite and best tiled steps on Kirkham Street. They love to walk around and they notice the changes and endless construction that makes the district feel like a maze at times. They also feel the stress and frustration of families who are working hard to stay safe, housed, educated and happy, but delighted they can help their neighbors and volunteer in their neighborhood and enjoy the most beautiful sunsets and see a glimpse of "Julia's bridge." They wanted to point out the Laguna Honda Hospital, the Juvenile Probation Department and Detention Center, Fort Funston, all the commuters on 19th Ave., MUNI drivers and passengers, and San Francisco State University.

Then Lee led us in prayer thanking him for District 7 and for the opportunity to know our neighbors and welcome visitors. They prayed for those in Laguna Honda Hospital, the Juvenile Detention Center, SF State, and families in District 7. He asked God to bless the businesses, and those who help the old and the young, those who work in public transportation, bless the educators, our public servants like policemen, fire fighters, and District Supervisor Norman Yee.

Let's continue to pray for, love, and serve our city. If you missed it, the audio recording is here
Question #35: Since we are redeemed by grace alone, through faith alone, where does this faith come from?

Answer: All the gifts we receive from Christ we receive through the Holy Spirit, including faith itself.
This Week's Sermon: “Rivalry Destroys" (Genesis 37)

“If individuals are naturally inclined to desire what their neighbors possess, or to desire what their neighbors even simply desire, this means that rivalry exists at the very heart of human social relations. This rivalry, if not thwarted, would permanently endanger the harmony and even the survival of all human communities.” -Rene Girard

Main idea: God is always working for good. (Even when it looks like He is not.)
