This week's Sermon: "The Power of Circumstances" (1 Samuel 8:1-9)

At the end of the book of Judges, Israel was facing so many challenges that there could only be one way forward. They were being lead by corrupt leaders that were only out for their own gain. Nations that wanted to invade them and were a constant military threat. In their minds, they needed a king. They did not just want any kind of king; they want to be “like the other nations” and demanded that Samuel follow their orders. They wanted a powerful warrior king that could win all of their battles. What they failed to recognize what that their only true hope was in God Himself. That more than managing their circumstances, their most desperate need was relationship with God and His leading. They needed someone to lead them into covenantal faithfulness.
Main Idea: Faithfulness is the only way forward.

Mission Highlight: Through Hands at Work, we have been partnering with our brothers and sisters in Christ in Malawi over the years to love and serve the most vulnerable and poor. Recently, we have learned about severe drought and flooding in the region that critically limits the supply of food as well as the security in the region over lack of resources.

In the context of our family relationship, we are currently supporting 26 children in Mcheneka with food, healthcare and education. These children as well as their caretakers are our brothers and sisters in Christ whom our church community has received so much grace and encouragement in Jesus. With the current and severe food crisis, we would like to respond in love by supporting 50 more children by July 1st. Whether it be as individuals or in groups, would you please pray for and consider sponsoring a child's basic needs for $20 a month per child for one year? If God is moving you to serve in this way, please contact Julie!

Also, Pastor Jeff at our sister church, Grace Alameda, is leading a trip to visit our brothers and sisters in Malawi in July. Would you also pray to see if God is leading you to go visit as well? Please contact Janice if you are interested! Thank you all for your continued prayers and support!
