This week's Sermon: "Hope and Exile" (Isaiah 40:1-8)

God does the most hopeful things in the most hopeless places. Exile should have been utterly hopeless for the Israelites, but God used it to draw them to himself, to transform them, and to teach them about Christ. God uses exile the same way today. If you are a follower of Christ, you are an exile. You belong to God’s kingdom, but live in another.

Main Idea: God uses exile.

This week's New City Catechism Question #19:
Is there any way to escape punishment and be brought back into God's favor?

Answer: Yes, to satisfy his justice, God himself, out of mere mercy, reconciles us to himself and delivers us from sin and from punishment for sin, by a Redeemer.

Christ Church Members: Please RSVP to Members Meeting by Monday, May 16!

Next Biblical Literacy Lecture, Monday, May 23 7PM. Dolores Park Church (455 Dolores St.) "Wisdom Literature in the Old Testament" with Tremper Longman, an author, scholar and professor.
