This week's Sermon: "Obstacles and Opportunities"  (Jeremiah 29:4-7)

We are all called to follow Jesus. In order to do that, we need to understand who Jesus and the challenges in our culture that make following Jesus challenging. What about our culture is conducive to faith? What about our culture is destructive to faith? Theologian Stanley Hauerwas remind us that “The Christian ‘we’ cannot always be the American ‘we.’ ‘We’ Christians are different. Sometimes the Christian ‘we’ may find much in common with the American ‘we.’ But that commonality must be found, not assumed.” What is the governing reality that is really shaping my identity? What is more important than anything else when I think about who I truly am? What makes my life worth living?”

Main Idea: Jesus transforms obstacles into opportunities.

This sermon series: A Year of Biblical Literacy

Question #33: Should those who have faith in Christ seek their salvation through their own works, or anywhere else?
Answer: No, they should not, as everything necessary to salvation is found in Christ. To seek salvation through good works is a denial that Christ is the only Redeemer and Savior.
Reminder for those who have been interested in membership, have prayed and read the booklet, this Sunday is the deadline to turn in the application card, to be considered for the public affirmation next Sunday.

For newcomers, there is a welcome lunch after service today, where we take you to lunch, get to know you and answer any questions you might have. Please look for Michelle in the lobby if you haven't RSVPed but are interested in joining.
Mission Highlight: We installed Seng as our new executive pastor at Christ Church! Praise God for providing and gifting our church with Seng as a new leader, as we all come together in one mission, to Make Disciples in Christ, Together, For the City and the World. Please pray for Seng and our church that his ministry may be fruitful by the grace of God.
We're starting the New Testament this week in the Year of Biblical Literacy! Watch the first part of the Book of Matthew video before you jump in!
