This week's Sermon: "It Shall Not Be So"  (Mark 10:35-45)

“You know that those who are considered rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. But it shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Sometimes the danger in reading God’s Word is that we read these accounts of what we are supposed to do and be and it can seem overwhelming. It can make us want to run away from it. How can I love like that? How can I serve like that? When we face those challenges we do not need to work harder or try to be more, we need to stop and consider all that God has already done for us in Jesus Christ. And all that He promises to continue to do. Anything God calls you to do, He also empowers you to do.

Main: Not to be served but to serve.

Christ Church Diaconate Installation: August, 28, 2016
Diakonos comes from the Greek word for "servant." After a sermon exploring our servant identity in Christ, we installed our deacons and deaconesses: Jonathan F., Brian G., Justin B., Janice W., Katrina E., Michelle H., Gary H., Paul W., Brian F.
Question #34: Since we are redeemed by grace alone, through Christ alone, must we still do good works and obey God's Word?
Answer: Yes, because Christ, having redeemed us by his blood, also renews us by his Spirit; so that our lives may show love and gratitude to God; so that we may be assured of our faith by the fruits; and so that by our godly behavior others may be won to Christ.

Children's Ministry: Two Sunday Coordinators (greets families, checks in kids, helps teachers/volunteers as needed, checks out grade school) and one Grade School Assistant (leads activities, keeps kids safe, shows them Jesus) needed! Please email Janice if you are interested!
