Sunday Recap for January 8, 2017
A Community Being Transformed in Christ

Mission Highlight: Thanks Toby, for sharing with us about the opportunity this summer to visit our ministry partners in Spain! We have known and worked alongside Steve Phillips' family and his church in Vilassar de Mar for years, and Steve has come preached on our pulpit a number of times. Every summer, they lead an English Camp in Vilafranca where access to gospel-preaching churches is extremely limited. Last year, our sister church Wellspring went with their youth group, and this year, our church is going to partner with them. It is a great opportunity short-term mission opportunity as U.S. churches can send members that help us build bridges towards our partners' community while using our native tongue. It goes a long way toward helping build a deep sense of connectedness between supporting churches and our missionaries. We can get a fuller sense of what the mission field is really like. Also, the seeds of mission are sown in the hearts of the volunteers and can also grow to a call to full-time missions. Regardless, even those who stay in the U.S. will become more aware of God's global kingdom. Finally, a huge value is the relationships built especially between volunteers and our missionary partners in Spain. Please pray that God would be glorified, known and loved through the English camp in Vilafranca, and please pray and ask if God is calling you to join us! If you are interested in more information, please contact us!
The Creeds are what we confess to ourselves, one another, and publicly to the world on Sundays, and they are foundational beliefs for us as Christians. These beliefs about God govern our reality and the way we see the world and ourselves. We will recite the Creeds together in the forms of catechism questions and answers, responsive readings, or the historic creeds. This week, we declared the Apostle's Creed together:

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

This week's Sermon: "A Community Being Transformed in Christ" (Romans 12:1-2)

“I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” (Romans 12:1-2)
“The Christian should neither withdraw from the world, nor be lost in the midst of the world. Instead, the Christian should bring the reign of God and the world into collision.” (Jacques Ellul)
