Sunday Recap for November 26, 2017:
Free To Be Like Jesus

Advent starts this Friday, on December 1st! Click on the image above for an advent devotional for you and your family! (From The Village Church)
With the start of Advent, click on the image above for a resource on the church calendar, also called the liturgical year, which "seeks to redeem our time and space through the seasons of Advent, Epiphany, Lent, Easter and Pentecost. Through readings, prayers, songs, fasts and other practices, these seasons help to reorient our hearts and minds away from the false stories of the world and back toward the one true story of the Bible--the Christian story." (Also from the Village Church)

Mission Highlight: Thank you, Craig and Dani, for leading us in our Mission Highlight! In case you missed it: "In first Timothy, Paul urges the church to make prayers, supplications, and thanksgiving for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. We will be praying for the elected leaders of San Francisco, acknowledging that God has put them in a position of authority. These leaders include Mayor Ed Lee, Assessor-Recorder Carmen Chu, City Attorney Dennis Herrera, District Attorney George Gascón, Public Defender Jeff Adachi, Sheriff Vicki Hennessy, Treasurer and Tax Collector Jose Cisneros, police chief Bill Scott; and the eleven district supervisors London Breed, Malia Cohen, Mark Farrell, Sandra Lee Fewer, Jane Kim, Aaron Peskin, Hillary Ronen, Ahsha Safai, Jeff Sheehy, Katy Tang, and Norman Yee. Let us pray.
God of power and might, through you authority is rightly administered, laws are enacted, and judgment is decreed. Assist with your spirit of counsel and wisdom the elected officials of San Francisco. May they always seek the ways of righteousness, justice and mercy. Grant that they may be enabled by your powerful protection to lead our city with honesty and integrity. We ask that you would guide them across their key initiatives including housing, commute improvement, security, equality in the workforce, water supply, storm and flood protection, energy, education, and health care. Above all, that they glorify you in all they do. May the Kingdom of God become evermore present in the city of San Francisco because of the wisdom and justice of our elected officials. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen."

Let's continue to pray for our leaders as Scripture commands us to!

Question #46: What is the Lord's Supper?
Answer: Christ commanded all Christians to eat bread and to drink from the cup in thankful remembrance of him and his death. The Lord's Supper is a celebration of the presence of God in our midst; bringing us into communion with God and with one another; feeding and nourishing our souls. It also anticipates the day when we will eat and drink with Christ in his Father's kingdom.
Link to this Week's Sermon: “Free To Be Like Jesus" (1 Peter 2:13-25)

There is a strange and counterintuitive idea at the heart of Christianity: To live free, to live as who you truly are, is to live constrained. That true freedom is only found when you live first and foremost for God and others and not for yourself.
Main Idea: Be like Jesus because that is who you are. Or Free to be like Jesus.
