Sunday Recap for November 5, 2017:

Membership Affirmation: Praise God for our new members, Wendy, Evelyn, Parker, Janese, Tim, Jason, Ellen and Christina (last three in absentia)! They affirmed their intention, with God’s help, to live loving and holy lives that reflect Christ; to maintain unity with and mutually encourage others in the body as they serve together; to commit themselves to growing in the truth of God’s Word, and to pray for our church and all in it, as well as those who have not yet put their faith in Christ. Pastor Seng, on behalf of existing members, affirmed the commitment of all to love, encourage, teach, admonish, comfort and exhort them to grow in the knowledge and love of Jesus Christ and His Word.
We'll miss you Aparicios!

We prayed for the Aparacios who are moving back to Spain. We were thankful for the way God blessed Christ Church through the Aparicios during their stay here, and blessed and sent them with God going before them to Spain, that to continue to be his light where they go!
Mission Highlight: Thank you, Amanda and Andrew, for updating us with what has been happening with our partner in ministry--Hands at Work! After sharing a brief background on Hands at Work, and an update on Mcheneka, a community we partner with, they led us in prayer. Let's continue to pray for our brothers, sisters, and the ones who need God's love to break through into their lives.

God, thank you for these stories, that make these people real to us. Our brothers and sisters on the other side of the world, experiencing daily struggles that most of us can only imagine. Stir our hearts to compassion when we hear of their suffering.. Let us rejoice with them in their victories. We lift up the careworkers and ask that you strengthen them. May they know your presence and your joy in the midst of hardship, your peace in strife, and your love unconditional. Fill them up as they pour themselves out for the destitute in their community. Raise up other local believers to partner with the CBO in caring for vulnerable children and families. Make your name known within the community. Meet also their physical needs with a plentiful harvest this year. Bring our brothers and sisters to mind so that we can continually lift them to you. Amen.
Question #42: How is the Word of God to be read and heard?
Answer: With diligence, preparation, and prayer; so that we may accept it with faith, store it in our hearts, and practice it in our lives.
Link to this Week's Sermon: “Holy" (1 Peter 1:13-25)

“They [the church] must above all, be a people of virtue— not simply any virtue, but the virtues necessary for remembering and telling the story of a crucified savior. They must be capable of being peaceable among themselves and with the world, so that the world sees what it means to hope for God’s kingdom…The church must learn time and time again that its task is not to make the world the kingdom, but to be faithful to the kingdom by showing to the world what it means to be a community of peace.” (Stanley Hauerwas)

Main Idea: If God is your Father, live as His children.
