Sunday Recap for April 2, 2017:
The King

Church Family Picnic next Sunday, April 9th after service!
Please join us next Sunday for a Church Family Picnic at Off the Grid at the Presidio! Bring a lunch or buy from a food truck there! We will be meeting by Rick's Tree (map above). It will be a great time of fellowship as a church family and we hope to see you there!
Special Announcement: We are transitioning to a giving platform called FinchGive over the next number of weeks for our online giving. We will not fully transition off the City, our current giving platform, until we have helped everyone transition over. We have been using a platform called The City for the last 6+ years, but their giving platform is no longer cost competitive.

We also no longer use The City for church-wide communication and planning events because it has not been updated and is too cumbersome and costly.

The FinchGive platform will be embedded into our website at christchurchsf.org/give. It is very quick to set up an account for recurring giving if you would like to do so. FinchGive will save us about 1.5% of our total online giving as well as about $1,200 a year in additional fees associated with The City. FinchGive is also maintained by our outside accounting firm Finch & Company, so it will be more efficient for Finch to manage our finances.

Since about half of our giving is done online, we are making this move because we believe it is better stewardship of the resources God has called us to steward. If you would like to know more about how Christ Church views Financial Stewardship there is a handout on the Resource Table in the lobby.

We are grateful for the generous giving of this congregation and for the many ways that has enabled us to serve our church, this city, and our international ministry partners.
Question #14: Did God create us unable to keep his law?
Answer: No, but because of the disobedience of our first parents, Adam and Eve, all of creation is fallen; we are born in sin and guilt, corrupt in our nature and unable to keep God's law.
Please check out the next Veritas Forum, which Pastor Toby has been a part of. It will take place on Wednesday, April 19th at the SF Jazz Center, and it will be a great opportunity to have respectful, loving, peaceful discourse and build bridges of understanding between Muslims and Christians. We hope to see you there!
This Week's Sermon: “The King” (Mark 4:21-41)
“How you arrange the plot points of your life into a narrative can shape who you are—and is a fundamental part of being human.” (Julie Beck, The Atlantic)
“Everything that we believe is filtered through our plausibility structures — belief-forming apparatus that acts as a gatekeeper, letting in evidence that is matched against what we already consider to be possible. Plausibility structures filter out claims that we believe cannot be reasonable or potentially true.” (Joe Carter)
“Despite inauspicious beginnings and the absence of human involvement, the seed contains within itself fruit-bearing potential. The seed, like the gospel, prospers of itself, and once sown sets in motion a process that leads to harvest…The faith that Jesus requires of disciples is to sleep and rise in humble confidence that God has invaded this troubled world not with a crusade but with a seed, an imperceptible [subversive force] that will grow into a fruitful harvest.” (James Edwards)
Main Idea: The Kingdom of God is the only governing reality for life.
