Sunday Recap for September 3, 2017:
Beloved Son and Christ

Intentional Parents Conference: The next generation of children can change the world. They matter—to God, to you, and to the church. That’s why Reality SF and Epic Church are hosting the Intentional Parents Conference with Phil and Diane Comer! This is a two-day conference created to give parents an in-depth Biblical understanding of what it looks like to raise passionate Jesus followers. The Comers will come alongside parents to offer encouragement, hope, and practical tools for parenting. You’ll have the opportunity to ask questions, hear stories of others who have gone before you, and formulate your own plan for a successful road ahead in parenting.

– Friday, September 15th, from 6:30PM – 9:30PM
– Saturday, September 16th, from 8:30AM – 1:30PM

Mission Highlight: Thank you, Aidan and Rebekah for sharing about our church's trip to Spain this summer! Aidan shared about  the contrast between going to Malawi, a place that was spiritually rich but poor in every other way, and then Spain, which looks like it's doing well but was very spiritually poor. He shared about how much God transformed his heart to care for the people of Spain.

Rebekah shared her journey about her family's roots to how much trouble she had finding a church there while studying abroad in Spain during college, until she realized years later that it was because the city she was in had no Protestant church, and the ones going to Catholic church were aging and few. More recently, she shared how Stephen Phillips shared that a woman's response to an invitation to church was, "I don't go to the true church, why would I go to yours?" Her heart for Spain grew on this trip, as she learned that the economy has also caused a lot of hopelessness among the youth who are dropping out of high school along with the lack of spiritual hope. In this context and background, she hoped that the English Camp would be an opportunity to love on the students, to show that Jesus loved them, and to show that they have meaning and purpose. It was also encouraging to serve alongside the missionary families, the Phillips and the Leightons, and she is very much looking forward to future Christ Church English Camps!

“The command to give God what belongs to God opens all kinds of further questions. Did he also mean that, because humans bear God’s image, all humans owe themselves, their very lives, to God, and should give those lives back, as one might give a coin back to Caesar? Did he mean, standing there in the Temple courtyards, that the sacrificial system, which was supposed to be the way of giving God his due, needed to be superceded by a more complete worship? Did he mean – against the normal revolutionaries – that if you really gave your whole self to God you would discover that using violence to fight violence, using evil to fight evil, simply wouldn’t do? I think he probably meant to hint at all of that, and perhaps even more.” (N.T. Wright)
Main Idea: Seeing Jesus leads to giving your all.
