Sunday Recap for January 7, 2017:
Jesus is the Plan

Christ Church has a Mission and Vision Sunday at the beginning of each year. We very much hope to see you there on Sunday, January 21st, 2018.

It will be an important day for everyone to be oriented around our shared vision, direction and plans for the year, as we work together to build unity and grow closer together, having one heart, one mind and the same spirit for the glory of Christ and his kingdom in San Francisco.

Details: Service will begin at 10:30am as usual, but end early at 11:30am. Lunch will be served and we plan to finish the M&V by 12:30pm. Childcare will be provided. More details will come, and please let us know if you have any questions!
Women's Ministry 9th Annual Cookie Exchange
Sunday, January 28th, 3-5pm @ Fulton Clubhouse (855 27th Ave.)
Ladies, please join us for a time of fellowship, reflecting on last year, looking toward the new year, and... cookies! Bring 2 dozen cookies (handmade or store-bought)
Mission Highlight: Thank you Toby for sharing about Hands at Work, our partnership in Mcheneka, Malawi, and about our upcoming trip on May 18-28. Here is a link to the slides!

In a country of 14 million where there are 1 million orphans, the needs overwhelm the capacity to support. By reaching out to the poorest of the poor in villages where NGO's don't reach, Hands at Work not only shares the saving gospel of Christ, but acts as his hands and feet in loving and serving the most vulnerable through providing food, basic education and healthcare, visiting the homes of the orphans, and supporting their caregivers, who are often just above the poverty line themselves.

Our partnership Hands at Work in Mcheneka (with churches Wellspring and Grace Alameda) is not a delusion that a few Westerners will magically fix everything in the short time we are there, but we are going to support and encourage the work that our brothers and sisters in Christ are tirelessly doing, and go in a posture of humility and learning, seeing the amazing work God is doing through his Christ-like children in Mcheneka, and inform the way we love and serve the vulnerable here in San Francisco.

We are planning to send a team of about 10 people during May 18-28. If you are interested, please fill out this form by Sunday, January 14th, (which includes meeting dates and cost estimates), as we would like the team finalized by the end of January. We will be sending out more information about the trip, and if you have any questions, please email us! Let us continue to be in prayer for this trip, that God work in mighty ways.
Question #52: What hope does everlasting life hold for us?
Answer: It reminds us that this present fallen world is not all there is; soon we will live with and enjoy God forever in the new city, in the new heaven and the new earth, where we will be fully and forever freed from all sin and will inhabit renewed, resurrection bodies in a renewed, restored creation.
Link to this Week's Sermon: "Jesus is the Plan" (Ephesians 1:1-10)

"Consider the remarkable facts. Paul’s letters, in a standard modern translation, occupy fewer than eighty pages. Even taken as a whole, they are shorter than almost any single one of Plato’s dialogues or Aristotle’s treatises. It is a safe bet to say that these letters, page for page, have generated more comment, more sermons and seminars, more monographs and dissertations than any other writings from the ancient world.” (N.T. Wright, Paul: A Biography)
“Thus the Lord Jesus Christ dominates Paul’s mind and fills his vision. It seems almost as if he feels compelled to bring Jesus Christ into every sentence he writes, at least at the beginning of this letter. For it is through and in Jesus Christ that God’s new society has come into being.” (John Stott)
Main: Jesus is the plan.
