Sunday Recap for October 28, 2018:
Light of the World

Mission Highlight: We were very blessed this Sunday to have not just one or two, but three special guests (more if you count the band)! Jared used to attend our church and a leader for serving the houseless in San Francisco, and also helped lead Citizens Church in serving the poor. Since then, Jared has gotten married to Sarah, and we continue to be church family, supporting and encouraging them in their ministry though they have been called to other parts of the country. They visited us and updated us on their time at an eco-village interfaith community, where they spent six months as a part of their growing season. They prayed that God would use them to share his light, and he did that--through sharing life they got to see their love and hope, and how Jesus is different. Sarah is now expecting and they are heading to serve at Nomad's Land in Alabama, a creative Christian community and hostel, that seeks to minister to those at Rainbow Gatherings in critical situations, to bolster and disciple them spiritually. Eventually, they want to be out west, where they have a vision of healing the earth and people through sustainable living in Christ (see chart). They appreciate the support of Christ Church its testament to non-believers that churches are engaged in this mission.

Next, CJ not only led musical worship with folks from Citizens Church, but he shared updates about our sister church as well. Currently they have 46 members and about 50 adults on Sundays (they meet at New Traditions Elementary three Sundays a month). They also have three Missional Families that need to multiply, as well as two elders, four deacons, and two deaconesses. They have had 85% growth over the last year, are 46% self-sustained, have a 86% participation rate in giving. All followers of Christ are missionaries, but they have seen a few be called to vocational missionary from their congregation. Renee, CJ's wife, started a ministry to strippers in North Beach where they hope to continue partnering with churches and organizations to love and care for strippers, all of whom Jesus loves. They have also been asked and agreed to take over InnerChange, a ministry partner that serves the houseless, and have undergone training by 3e restoration on how churches can help serve the impoverished. Their prayer requests are for their Missional Communities as they multiply, that God provide financial sustainability (they need 300k in the next three years), and for conversions--that people come to Christ. They are currently walking with hundreds of people who don't know Jesus and wish to see God work. They thanked us for our support, and we were so glad to hear from our dear brothers and sister on what God was doing through them.
This Week's Sermon: “Light of the World" (1 John 1:5-10)

“It is after you have realized that there is a Moral Law and a Power behind the law, and that you have broken that law and put yourself wrong with that Power—it is after all this, and not a moment sooner, that Christianity begins to talk.” -CS Lewis in Mere Christianity
