Sunday Recap for February 11, 2018:

Mission Highlight: Thank you Sara for sharing about San Francisco's District 1! We do district highlights because following Jesus means we must love our neighbor and love the city. In order to love the city, we must know it. Sara shared facts about District 1, along with her personal experience living there. Here is a bit of what she shared:

The Richmond is named after a settler who built his home in a place that was then called "Outside Lands" and named his home "Richmond House" after his hometown, Richmond, Australia. Thus the Richmond neighborhood got its name, and is today considered the New Chinatown and Little Russia.

The primary neighborhoods in District 1 are the Inner Richmond and the Outer Richmond. Golden Gate Park is also a part of District 1. Our church meets in District 1 and our good friends at Outer Circle Inner Change minister to those living in the park. It has more families living in the neighborhood compared to the rest of the city. Over 36% of the residents were not born in the US and English is not the primary language for over 50% of its households. The district is estimated to be 48% white, 43% Asian, 7% Hispanic and 2% African American. About 54% adults have a college degree.

Sara has lived in the Richmond for two years, and her husband has ben there for six. She shared about he rich cultural food, the field trips with her students to Golden Gate Park, the butcher who gives her extra week, the sound of the MUNI bus, along with the restaurant where she had her first date with her husband and living with roommates she found on Craigslist. She shared about her friendship with her neighbor, and her neighbors who tell her when they leave their garage door open.

Sara prayed that the people of District 1 would know and cherish God as God knows and cherishes each one of them, and for them to believe Jesus is Christ, who died and rose again so that we might live forever with him. We prayed for God's servants at Outer Circle Inner Change and the people they serve, and for Christians in the district to share the love of God on a daily basis. We prayed for our congregation that we might better love and serve District 1. Let's continue to pray for our city and share the love of Christ with it!
Question #4: How and why did God create us?
Answer: God created us male and female in his own image to know him, love him, live with him, and glorify him. And it is right that we who were created by God should live to his glory.

Ephesians 2:11-22, “But don’t take any of this for granted. It was only yesterday that you outsiders to God’s ways had no idea of any of this, didn’t know the first thing about the way God works, hadn’t the faintest idea of Christ. You knew nothing of that rich history of God’s covenants and promises in Israel, hadn’t a clue about what God was doing in the world at large. Now because of Christ—dying that death, shedding that blood—you who were once out of it altogether are in on everything.” (Eugene Peterson)
“Before I was a father I thought God never would forget me, but since I have been a father I know God never can forget me.” (Hudson Taylor, 19th Century)
