Imitating Christ

Mission Highlight: Thank you Jon for sharing with us the updates on The Porch, a church plant in District 3. Jon and his wife Melissa are a part of a pastor residency at Christ Church and leading a church plant called The Porch, named after one of the first places followers of Jesus met in the Bible, on Solomon's Porch. Jon shared about why he chose District 3--because of the huge gospel need, and because he lives there, and because there weren't very many English speaking gospel preaching churches. He also provided us with a eloquent quote on why we plant new churches by Steve Timmis: “Church planting is not simply starting a new congregation. Church planting is not beginning a new meeting. Church planting is not opening up a new building. Church planting is the work of filling and subduing. It is the work of pushing back the thorns and thistles of Satan’s tyranny. It is a glorious task to which God has called us. God in the gospel is inviting us to participate with Him to fill the earth and subdue it. As we go out to make disciples of every nation we are extending Eden, creating Edens all over the world. We are establishing places where God rules and where God walks in mercy. It is for this that we were made. This is what the first Adam forfeited. This is what the Second Adam has gloriously secured. And this is how it has always been in the kingdom of God.”

They plan to do this with a heavy focus on missional families. To support the Porch, Jon asked for prayers, as it is certain to fail without being covered and blanketed in prayer. Also, please go to their website to donate or to see other ways you could support, such as becoming a part of the core team or sending interested people their way. They are not looking for super saints – just regular people who want to grow in faith and see other people come to faith. So let's continue to pray for the Porch and for the Bracketts as they seek to be a community of light in the northeast corner of San Francisco!
Question #14: Did God create us unable to keep his law?
Answer: No, but because of the disobedience of our first parents, Adam and Eve, all of creation is fallen; we are all born in sin and guilt, corrupt in our nature and unable to keep God’s law.

“Our stories, in all their beauty and heartache, shape and influence every dimension of our daily life and relationships. Knowing the impact of our story and finding God’s redemptive work within it is vital for emotional, relational, and spiritual formation and health.”
Dr. Dan Allender, To Be Told: Know Your Story, Shape Your Future
“Paul summarized the history of the human race in one sentence: ‘They worshipped and served created things rather than the Creator” (Romans 1:25). Every human being must live for something. Something must capture our imaginations, our heart’s most fundamental allegiance and hope. But, the Bible tells us, without the intervention of the Holy Spirit, that object will never be God himself.’”
