Sunday Recap for July 8, 2018:
Standing in the Noise

Mission Highlight: Thank you Steven for sharing about District 2! Here is what was shared!

"Hello everyone, for those of you I haven’t met, my name is Steven, and I am here to give you this week’s Mission Highlight.  For those who are new or visiting, we take this time to both share and pray for the work God is doing in our city, and one of the ways is to look at the work being done in our own neighborhoods.  We together as a congregation ask the question, what would it look like to love our neighbors who are actually our neighbors.  So today I would like to pray for District 2.  As you can see from this map, it is essentially the northern part of the city.  Going from left to right, it is composed of the neighborhoods Sea Cliff, the Presido, Presido Heights, Laurel Heights, Cow Hollow, the Marina, and finally, my neighborhood Pacific Heights, where I have lived for the past 6 years since moving to San Francisco.
District 2 has an estimated population of 67,000, of which 80% are white, 14% are Asian, 6% are Latino, and 2% are Black.   83% of residents were born in the United States, and English is the primary language for 80% of households.  80% of adults living here have a college degree, while 6% live in poverty.  Like most of San Francisco, the cost of living is high, particularly in Pacific Heights, and prices have continued to go up.
As I said before, I have lived in the Pacific Heights neighborhood for the past 6 years, since moving to San Francisco.  Among my favorite places to spend time in my neighborhood are Lafayette Park, which is only a couple blocks from where I live, if I ever need to go for a walk.  It has a small playground for children, which is always encouraging to know families are living in the area. Filmore Street is another favorite of mine, where I go to frequently for lunch, dinner, ice cream, and haircuts, and while I haven’t spent as much time there, I also enjoy going to the Presido.  Whenever the church has our food truck lunches I try to go, and I’ve also started doing their walking trails with my girlfriend.
One opportunity for me to serve an actual neighbor has come from my next door neighbor who I met when he approached me about sharing internet and splitting the cost.  As many who live in the city know, especially in apartments, knowing your neighbors can be hard, and while I still haven’t gotten super close with Will, I continue to hope and pray God can use this relationship for his purposes, and opportunities to better know Will would still present themselves.
In terms of how the church has been praying for District 2, we have been praying for God to plant gospel preaching churches there, as District 2 has the fewest of all districts. Canvas Church has been faithfully serving for a number of years and has started to meet at Marina Middle School. Please pray for their relationship with school and for them to flourish, so that the gospel can be preached in District 2."

Then Steven led us in prayer for District 2. Let's continue to pray for District 2 and our city, and also live out our calling to love and to serve and make Christ known!
This Week's Sermon: “Standing in the Noise" (2 Timothy 2:20-26)

Self-Differentiation: The ability to stand in and experience the anxiety, stress and emotion of others and be unaffected. They have clarity of their identity and, as a result, is unlikely to be lost in the anxious, emotional processes of society.
