Sunday Recap for August 26, 2018:
Faithful in the Ordinary

We are happy to share that Christ Church's church-planting resident Jon Brackett and his wife Mel have updates on The Porch, a church plant we are very excited to be partnered with. Please mark your calendars for September 16th and September 30th, when they will be hosting their "Vision Nights" to share about their vision to launch The Porch.

Some background: San Francisco is the least churched city in America, and along with Christ Church, The Porch hopes to be a part of the church-planting movement that our city needs. Jon and Mel live in the northeast corner of San Francisco, where The Porch is hoping to plant. They have been hosting Sunday dinners to build relationships, and have a vision for The Porch to have Missional Families that grow in faith together in order to love, serve, and reach out to their neighbors with the gospel. Please pray with them for the people in the neighborhood--that they may know Christ, for fundraising, for 25-30 more people for their Core Team, and for the Brackett family as they say goodbye to their foster daughter who will go to live with her grandmother.

If you, or anyone you know, is interested in going to Vision Night, praying for The Porch, getting involved, or simply learning more, please contact Jon!

Mission Highlight: Praise God for our new members that were publicly affirmed, David, Katie, Shireen, Rebecca, Stacy, Joseph, and Hamilton! They affirmed their intention, with God’s help, to live loving and holy lives that reflect Christ; to maintain unity with and mutually encourage others in the body as they serve together; to commit themselves to growing in the truth of God’s Word, and to pray for our church and all in it, as well as those who have not yet put their faith in Christ. Members were then asked to stand and pray with Jon-Paul, an elder at Christ Church, as we affirmed the commitment of all to love, encourage, teach, admonish, comfort and exhort them to grow in the knowledge and love of Jesus Christ and His Word.

For those of you who missed it, the audio recording can be found here.

Question #34: Since we are redeemed by grace alone, through Christ alone, must we still do good works and obey God’s Word?
Answer: Yes, because Christ, having redeemed us by his blood, also renews us by his Spirit; so that our lives may show love and gratitude to God; so that we may be assured of our faith by the fruits; and so that by our godly behavior others may be won to Christ.
This Week's Sermon: “Faithful in the Ordinary" (Philippians 2:19-30)

We live out our Christian life one day at a time in the ordinary and mundane. The ordinary and mundane is where we meet both temptations, like grumbling, and opportunities to faithfully follow Christ in the way of simple service, kindness, and forgiveness.
