Sunday Recap for March 24, 2019:
Build Others Up

Mission Highlight: Our Commissioning Prayers are a part of a series of our Mission Highlights where once a month, we pray for those working in a specific industry, recognizing that all followers of Jesus are sent wherever we go (John 20:21John 17:18), including the workplace.”

This week, Mel shared about the unique challenges and opportunities of being a parent. "Parenting is an all-encompassing responsibility that is ever-changing as your children grow and requires strength, flexibility, humility, wisdom--to name a few qualities--as you not only try to keep your kids alive but also train and disciple them day in and day out." She spoke about the unique and intense love and how it shows us about our relationship with God, as well as the joys, fears, anxieties, and sin we bring into our parenting. She also shared about the added stress and time management challenge of parents with jobs outside of home, and the sacrifice of income for stay-at-home parents in a society that tempts stay-at-home parents to feel less-than, isolated, and unproductive.

She encouraged dialogue on the topic, and also encouraged our congregation to get to know the parents among us, the children, to serve and to learn, and for parents to encourage one another. She also reminded all parents to hold onto the core of their identities--being followers of Jesus, loving God with our whole selves and our neighbors as our selves throughout our parenting.

Then Jon-Paul prayed a commissioning prayer for the parents, asking God to remind us of our relationship with him, and that all parents be able to point their children to their perfect heavenly Father. Let's continue to pray for the parents in our congregation and take on the encouragement to support one another!
This Week's Sermon: “Build Others Up" (James 4:1-11-12)

“Love without truth is sentimentality; it supports and affirms us but keeps us in denial about our flaws. Truth without love is harshness; it gives us information but in such a way that we cannot really hear it.” — Timothy Keller, The Meaning of Marriage

“Our words carry enormous weight. More than we sometimes think. They often impact people for decades, providing the courage to press on or one more reason to give up.” — Michael Hyatt

Main Idea: Build others up.
-One to two slides volunteers needed! Once a month, you would help prepare the liturgy slides, help set up on Sunday mornings, and then operate the slides that Sunday. If you're interested, please email us

-Seven Children's Ministry volunteers needed! Folks traveling during the summer and having babies has created a need in Sunday Coordinating, High School, Stand-by Parents, and Grade School teaching. An excellent way to serve the children and families at our church that they may know Christ. All of these roles are once a month:
-Two Sunday Coordinators: welcome families, check in kids, float around for assistance, preschool/toddler check out.
-One woman High School Volunteer: Facilitate sermon discussions after service, build relationships with teens, monthly socials.
-Two Stand-by Parents: Be on call to help watch preschool/toddlers in case there are 13+ kids.
-Two Grade School Teachers: teach and lead grade school using lesson plan provided, build relationships, keep kids safe.

-Easter Baptisms are coming up! Baptism is one of the sacraments that Jesus commanded, a beautiful, public, symbolic act to show that you are dead to your old self and born again in Christ. If you are interested in being baptized or know anyone considering it, please let us know! The baptisms will be on April 21st, and we would like to know by April 7th.
