Sunday Recap for June 16, 2019:
Wisdom and Money

Mission Highlight: This Sunday, we prayed for the Spain Team, who are traveling this week to Spain to run the English Camp in Vilafranca del Penedés for Esglèsia Evangèlica Baptista. Let's continue to pray for the team! Here is the prayer:

We pray for our Mission Team as Paul did for the Ephesian church, that they would grow in spiritual wisdom and discernment, and depth of love for those whom they will serve and serve with (Eph. 3:14-19).
Heavenly Father, we thank you that You are the One who is working in the world to build your church, and that you grant to us the privilege of participating in Your work.
We ask therefore that you would help us to trust in You, turning to You often in prayer to ask for what we need, for provision, wisdom, strength, joy, rest, and peace. We ask these things now, for the team members who are going to Spain to conduct the English Camp, which is the platform and the opportunity for the mission.
The mission you have given all of us is to make disciples, and in this context, it is to show others what it means to be disciples who love and serve others in self-giving ways. Because that’s what You Yourself came to show us. You not only preached the kingdom of heaven, but you showed it to us, by using your power and ability to heal, to give life, and to wash the feet of your disciples. We pray that you would invest those standing here with that same desire and sense of purpose, because they love you out of the love that You first loved them with, and they want others to know Your love.
Father, we pray that while meeting the need of those who come to learn at the English Camp, the mission team would make this the true focus of their trip: to show those coming to the English Camp – and one another – the practical love of Christ by serving joyfully, agreeably, and well, and so give to all who come a faithful testimony of Your goodness and mercy. May this be the measure of success they use, and may it be what their English students remember most: their interactions with loving servants of Christ, whose deepest trust, whose highest joy, and whose greatest reward, is in their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Would You provide the opportunities and spur the questions in people’s hearts, that they would desire to know what it is that has led these, Your servants, to serve them in this way. And would You then give Your servants the wisdom to answer and demonstrate in simple and convincing ways that it is because they believe Your living Word and abide in it. Would You open blinded eyes and soften hardened hearts in such moments, Lord, so that people would feel the desire to draw near to You and hear the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Father, we pray that Your Spirit would help the members of this team to prepare themselves spiritually, and help them to also grow spiritually, both during and after this trip. Help them to recognize the spiritual war that Your church is facing, including Your church in Spain. As they begin each day between now and their return, help them to put on the whole armor of God, and at their daily debriefs, help our Lead Pastor, Toby, to tend these members of Your flock. May they encourage, help, and strengthen one another, and wash one another with the water of Your Word. May they especially encourage, help, and strengthen our Spanish brothers and sisters in Christ, and all those leading Your church in Spain.
Would you lead this team and its members to be flexible and adaptable in their ongoing plans. Help them to trust the plan that You have for this trip, and to discern and respond to what it is You wish to accomplish through it. May they see that You have gone ahead of them to make provision through Your people who are in Spain, and that You will sustain them and their efforts.
We pray that You would protect, preserve, and enhance the health, energy, patience, safety, and travels of the individual team members. May they be salt and light not only to those coming to learn English, but also to those who are of Your church in Spain. Would You help them to encourage, commend, challenge, and pray for Pastor Gabi and the members and leaders of his church to find their strength, growth, and hope in You.
And for the rest of us who are not going on the mission team, Lord, would You cause us to remember these servants of Yours often in prayer, and by our continuing material, physical, and spiritual support of them.
This Week's Sermon: Wisdom and Money" (Ecclesiastes 5:10-12)
“The only thing we all belong to is the global market, an encompassing entity that contains all political organizations and their citizenry, now redefined as consumers.” — Patrick Deneen, Why Liberalism Failed
“When used with wisdom, money is a gift from God—a tool for worshiping Jesus and honoring God. How that plays out is the subject of this book. Without wisdom, we’re likely to fear, worship, and live for our money, making it our god.” -- Jamie Munson, Money: God or Gift?

Main Idea: How does money function in your life?
